Traditional Chinese medicine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The modern practice of traditional Chinese medicine is increasingly incorporating techniques and theories of Western medicine in its praxis.
Unlike other forms of traditional medicine which have largely become extinct, traditional Chinese medicine continues as a distinct branch of modern medical practice, and within China, it is an important part of the public health care system.
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) also known simply as Chinese medicine (Chinese: 中醫學, zhōngyī xué, or 中药学, zhōngyaò xué) is the name commonly given to a range of traditional medical practices used in China that have developed over the course of several thousand years of history.

Traditional medicine - definition of Traditional medicine in Encyclopedia
In this view, modern medicine is seen as the established form of medicine that is now the traditional treatment for illness, especially in western societies, and alternative approaches are seen as new alternatives to these traditional treatments.
These alternative approaches may be those falling into the "traditional medicine" category described by the other definition of the term, may instead fall into a broader category of alternative medicine, or may be techniques actually originating in the modern era that have for various reasons fallen out of favor amongst the majority of doctors.
In a more antagonistic view, modern medicine may even be seen as corrupt because of the influence of pharmaceutical companies, with its practitioners seen as "traditionalists" for their perceived attachment to established techniques and unwillingness to countenance new approaches, and those following non-pharmacological approaches forming the vanguard of a new, "non-traditional" approach.

 Alternative & Traditional Medicine
Unlike alternative medicine, complementary medicine is a non-standard treatment given in conjunction with allopathic therapy, as opposed to instead of a standard treatment.
The term "integrative medicine" would also be appropriate for a clinic in which a patient is treated by both allopathic and alternative medicine practitioners.
Alternative medical treatments are taught at naturopathic medical schools and alternative medicine is often used to include alternative diagnostic procedures, not just treatment modalities.12 The term "alternative medicine" is used by many to mean any medical therapy which is not a synthetic drug or not surgery.

Traditional Chinese medicine, abbreviated as TCM, also known as "Chinese medicine" or "Traditional Oriental Medicine") is the traditional medicine dating back to antiquity and originating in China.
TCM is based on the belief that the body will recover from illness when the person's Yin and Yang energies and Qi are in balance.
For example, modern applications of TCM include alleviating the side effects of chemotherapy when treating cancer patients, helping drug addicts get clean, and treating a variety of chronic conditions that allopathic medicine is often ineffective against.
