Shock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In neurogenic shock because of vasodilation in the legs, one of the most suggested treatments is placing the patient in the Trendelenburg position, thereby elevating the legs and shunting blood back from the periphery to the body's core.
The main goals of the treatment of cardiogenic shock are the re-establishment of circulation to the myocardium, minimising heart muscle damage and improving the heart's effectiveness as a pump.
Pneumothorax or haemothorax is treated by inserting a chest tube, pulmonary embolism requires thrombolytica (to reduce the size of the clot), or embolectomy (removal of the thrombus), tamponade is treated by draining fluid from the pericardial space through pericardiocentesis.

 Shock
Shock can be avoided by recognizing that a patient who is unable to drink in order to replace lost fluids needs to be given fluids intravenously (through a needle in a vein).
Other types of shock are only preventable insofar as one can prevent their underlying conditions, or can monitor and manage those conditions well enough so that they never progress to the point of shock.
Other tests are performed, as appropriate, to try to determine the underlying condition responsible for the patient's state of shock.

eMedicine - Shock : Article by Adam Schwarz, MD
The clinical history of patients who present in shock varies depending upon the etiology of the individual patient's condition.
The defining clinical findings of shock are described, and current diagnostic and therapeutic strategies are presented to help guide the most effective and appropriate treatment for resuscitating the child in shock.
While stabilization of the airway and breathing and an aggressive response to improving the circulation of any patient who presents clinically in shock takes precedence over any other workup that might delay resuscitation, additional studies may ultimately help identify an etiology and guide ultimate therapy of the patient in shock.

Shock: A state in which blood flow to and perfusion of peripheral tissues are inadequate to sustain life because of insufficient cardiac output or maldistribution of peripheral blood flow, usually associated with hypotension and oliguria.
In some patients who have chronic lung diseases or cardiac dysfunction, measurement of the pulmonary end-diastolic pressure or PCWP, both of which are usually closely related to the left ventricular pressure during diastole, is a better test.
Pericardial tamponade is suggested by jugular venous distention, muffled heart sounds, a pericardial rub, and a paradoxical pulse.
