Topic: Translocation

 Outline - Translocation
Translocation aims to research a specific scenario which not only will present important aspects of our conceptual mission and the space in which the exhibition is to be held, but also to test the foundations of the group itself as a community of artists and individuals.
Each individual's experience of their translocation, leaves an impression, physically and psychologically, which influences their political and sociological points of view, as well as manifesting itself in their art.
In this text, 'TRANSLOCATION' will refer to that condition.

Translocation of inhaled ultrafine particles to the brain - Inhalation Toxicology, (in press, 2004)
Such neuronal translocation constitutes an additional not generally recognized clearance pathway for inhaled solid UFP, whose significance for humans, however, still needs to be established.
Protein coating of UFP after deposition may be necessary for this neuronal translocation pathway.
This not generally recognized clearance pathway from the nasal mucosa to the CNS could be of significance for induction of neurotoxic effects following acute or chronic exposures to environmental or occupational UFP.

Once approved, the protocols will allow individual translocations, which conform to the protocol, to be approved without the requirement for a case-by-case risk assessment.

 Robertsonian Translocation
A Robertsonian translocation results when the long arms of two acrocentric chromosomes fuse at the centromere and the two short arms are lost.
The distribution of a Robertsonian translocation chromosome at meiosis can cause serious medical problems or no problems at all!

 Translocation
Translocation is the movement of sucrose and other organic materials from one place to another within the plant body, primarily through the phloem.
This concentration or pressure difference causes the sucrose to diffuse toward and into the phloem of the leaf and hence to the phloem of the stem (where there is even less sucrose).
Translocation typically begins in any plant location where sucrose (or the other organic solute) is in high concentration.

Medical Genetics - Translocation Down Syndrome
Parents with balanced translocations may have fertility problems (trouble becoming pregnant), miscarriages, or have an increased chance of having a child with health problems.
For example, if the translocation is between #14 and 21, there is a 10 to 15 percent chance for Down syndrome in a pregnancy if the mother is the translocation carrier, and a 3 to 5 percent chance if the father is the translocation carrier.
Whenever a translocation is found in a child, the parents’ chromosomes are studied to determine whether the translocation was inherited or not.

 Reciprocal Translocation: Philadelphia Chromosome
This translocation, which is found only in tumor cells, indicates that a patient has chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML).

Detailed studies of the Philadelphia chromosome show that most of chromosome 22 has been translocated onto the long arm of chromosome 9.

Genetic translocations can cause serious disorders, such as Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia.
Usually refers to genetic translocations, in which part of a chromosome is transferred to another chromosome. This type of translocation can result in a bigger, flawed, chromosome; in other cases, the two chromosomes will trade pieces with each other.

Translocation is one of the many tools available to assist in conserving threatened plant species.  It involves the deliberate transfer of plants or regenerative plant material from one place to another.
Translocation can be used to enhance existing populations; reintroduce a species to a site where it formerly occurred, but where it is now extinct; and to introduce a species to a site where it hasn’t been recorded previously.
