While Ravicz discusses specific conventional treatment options for only a few of the most common autoimmune disorders, her focus is on the nutrient deficiencies and psychological changes that contribute to symptoms in most autoimmune disorders.
In Part I she discusses Women and Autoimmune Disorders and Related Conditions, with special emphasis on stress and the immune system, reclaiming your healing energy, the Mind-Body connection and the power of the diagnosis.

 Re: VPForum: Psychosomatic-Definition
Molly, According to Taber's 15th edition Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary psychosomatic has as the following: "Pertaining to the relationship of the mind and body and also this: Disorders that have a physiological component but are thought to originate in the emotional state of the patient are termed psychosomatic.
Kinds of somatoform disorder are: conversion disorder, hypochondria, psychogenic pain disorder." Well, the reason that I wanted to add this last one is b/c there are some drs that think that the nerve pain that we tell them that we have is all just our imagination.
The definition of somatoform disorder according to Mosby's Medical Encyclopedia revised edition is: "Any of a group of nervous disorders with symptoms look like a physical illness or disease, for which there is no real disease.

Operating from a general psychosomatic model wherein they assumed that inhibiting or holding back one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors was associated with long-term stress and disease (Pennebaker, Kiecolt-Glaser, and Glaser, 1988), they have conducted a number of very intriguing studies.
Both medical practitioners and behavioral scientists are aware of the capacity of the human body to respond to situational stress; however, it appears that the threshold to initiate such a response is lower than previously thought.
It also appears that there is a relationship between psychosomatic, or physical complaints, and the growing pressures our lifestyle seems to encourage.
