These comprise a broad spectrum of work, from experimental teratology to behavioural teratology and on to clinical and applied research.
Today, the focus of interest is not just on substance use, the effects of noxae, or testing in experimental animals; rather, clinical questions and such that are relevant to practice have priority.
In addition to the increasing number of special disciplines interested in teratology, the intensified focus on explaning causal relationships in teratogenesis is also evident.

 NTP: Abstract for Teratology--Alpha-Methyldopa
In addition to the teratology study, a preliminary evaluation of perinatal survival and postnatal growth to postnatal day 22 of rat pups exposed in utero to MD on gd 6-20 and fostered to untreated mothers was also conducted.
In the teratology study, MD suspended in corn oil (0, 50, 100, 250 and 500 mg/kg/day) was administered by gavage to timed-pregnant CD rats on gd 6 through 20.
During MD treatment, dams in the teratology study exhibited observable signs of toxicity including lethargy, chromodacryorrhea, blue discoloration of the nose, diarrhea, rough coat, vaginal bleeding, and urogenital staining and wetness.

Teratology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Teratology (from the Greek teratos, meaning monster and logos meaning study) is the medical study of teratogenesis or grossly deformed individuals.
Along with this new awareness of the in utero vulnerability of the developing mammalian embryo came the development and refinement of The Six Principles of Teratology which are still applied today.
Understanding how a teratogen causes its effect is not only important in preventing congenital abnormalities but also has the potential for developing new therapeutic drugs safe for use with pregnant women.

 Teratology
As doctors began to specialize, focusing on the medical fields of anatomy and embryology, by the middle of the 18th century, philosophers of “enlightenement” boldly set forth new theories that presented the monstrous as a non-metaphysical phenomenon.
The works of the Geoffroy St. Hilaire family were fundamental in the development of teratology.
Etienne, the father, demonstrated through comparative anatomical studies that a cause of monstrosity was an interruption in the development of the foetus.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velazquez
The unconscious cruelty which takes such pictures for granted is what Velazquez has in common with the ferocious side of his race and, for example, with the sanguinary art of Ribera.
The painter shows neither affection nor disgust; he was no repugnance to painting what nature is not ashamed of creating and what the sun shines upon.
This collection of frightful studies, these pictures of cripples, goblins, abortions, might serve to illustrate a treatise on teratology.

Essential Insight into Birth Defects, Teratology, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
However, the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation's Josef Warkany, MD, with the help of the University of Cincinnati's Kettering Laboratory, proved that it was due to mercury poisoning coming from teething powders, ointments, and even medications prescribed to combat the symptoms.
With a new hospital and a new research foundation, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center physicians and scientists in the 1930s were ready to enter the fight to prevent diseases.
Warkany's discovery brought him considerable attention, but his investigations in teratology (the study of birth defects) were to result in more lasting acclaim.

The Chants of Old Heroes, Singing in our Ears by Steve Tompkins
The secondary/supplementary material in Wandering Star’s Howard volumes has not concerned itself overmuch with Howard’s supernatural effects and his teratology.
Only the sleep of monsters breeds reason, and Howard could be irrational with the best of them, but in his fiction xenophobia and speciesism are at times too small and small-minded to accommodate him:
When Howard writes that “All this Shevatas knew without being particularly conscious of the knowledge, as a man knows the streets of his town” he is being casual about the width and breadth of his own more-than-Texas-sized imagination.
