All in the Mind: 21 December  2003  - A Very Philosophical Christmas
<b>Stephenb> Law: That’s a good question, and if Christmas is really about celebrating the birth of Christ, then what have snow-flecked kittens on the front of the card, what’s that got to do with Christmas, you might ask.
In fact how we behave at Christmas says all sorts of interesting things about our collective and individual psyches: the need the belong, to be part of the community, the psychology of altruism, the art of lying.
<b>Stephenb> Law: Or the talcum; the happiest outcome on the face of it at least, would be to lie, because then Aunt Gertrude and Aunty Val go home feeling happy, and there isn’t a big split in the family and a big to-do and everything.

But you might want to give that old-fashioned Christmas wish a second thought.
ACE COLLINS (Author, STORIES BEHIND THE GREAT TRADITIONS OF CHRISTMAS): It was a horrible holiday.
LAWTON : While Christmas is now celebrated wherever there are Christian communities around the world, nowhere are those celebrations as pervasive -- or elaborate -- as here in the U.S. I'm Kim Lawton in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

 Spivey's Corner
I arrived back home in time to see <b>Stephenb> for a few minutes as he was home for lunch, then I started watching TLC (The Learning Channel).
It's 11:48 p.m., -22 degrees and <b>Stephenb> is already sleeping.
<b>Stephenb> got off work early today because it was the last day of the week for them and usually the last day they get off at 15:00 or 3 p.m.

A Christmas Carol - Krensky, <b>Stephenb>/ Morrissey, *NEW
<b>Stephenb> Krensky's careful abridgment of Dickens' words is complemented by new artwork by one of today's best-loved illustrators, Dean Morrissey, the author of Ship of Dreams and The Christmas Ship.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL is Dickens's tender and comic tale of the Cratchit family, Tiny Tim, and Ebenezer Scrooge--a favorite since it was written in 1843.

<b>Stephenb> Christmas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
1947 - 1993) was a 5 year old boy when he became the first patient described to have Christmas disease (or Haemophilia B) in 1952 by a group of British doctors.
<b>Stephenb> was dependant on blood and plasma transfusions, and was infected with HIV in the period during which blood was not routinely screened for this virus.

 Pepys' Diary: Christmas
<b>Stephenb> Nissenbaum, in his book, “The Battle for Christmas” (Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1996), describes how the holiday’s traditions changed over the centuries, often by people trying to reform it.
Christmas was a season of ‘misrule,’ a time when ordinary behavioral restraints could be violated with impunity.
Nissenbaum warns that simply because a Christmas tradition was once described in one place, that doesn’t mean it was celebrated everywhere in the same country or by everyone in the same community in the same way.

 St <b>Stephenb>’s Christmas Day 2002
To that mind-set the significance of Christmas begins and ends with the birth of a baby at Bethlehem, with an odd camel, wise man, angel and shepherd thrown in for good measure.
Every Christmas the Telephone Samaritans get an extra large number of calls from people who are tempted to despair or suicide.
However there are two quite different but equally valid ways of looking at that Truth; and which of the two views appeals more strongly to someone will depend, in part at least, upon what sort of person they are and what their experiences in life have been.

THE FEAST OF ST. <b>STEPHENb>, DEC. 26
It is necessary for us, nevertheless, brethren, to acknowledge with what arms <b>Stephenb> was girded and able to overcome the cruelty of the Jews that thus he merited so happily to triumph.
"<b>Stephenb>, therefore, that he might merit to obtain the crown his name signifies, had as his weapon charity, and by means of that he was completely victorious.
The Saviour's immediate attendant is St. <b>Stephenb> of Jerusalem, the first martyr, for there is no greater love for the newborn King than to lay down one's life for Him.

WorldNetDaily: Christmas in America becomes battleground
Despite all the conflict, some believers have little problem with the controversies over Christmas; in fact, they rejoice in them.
America's early colonists banned observance of Christmas, and still today, there are many Christians abstaining from what millions more of their brethren joyfully celebrate as God's coming in human form.
Christmas is based in deception: its origins; lying to small children about Santa Claus; talking about having peace on earth while ignoring God's instructions on how to achieve it; saying it is biblical, while 99 percent of it is all about commerce and other selfish objectives.

St <b>Stephenb> Christmas Day 1997 We beheld his glory
But of the thousands of people who have seen it only some will have "beheld" it to the extent of actually reading what it says and, maybe, have made up their minds to come to son <b>Stephenb>'s at midnight mass on this morning.
In other words "to behold" something means to be in some kind of relationship to it, to engaged our minds with it to a far greater extent than merely to have seen it.
Everyone who passes by it will see that notice unless they happen to be looking the other way or they are blind or walking around with their eyes shut.

Sheet Music Plus - Christmas Music for Acoustic Guitar
"this is absolutely the best christmas book for acoustic/classical guitar out there.
A great way to enhance any Christmas gathering.
The author's intent while arranging these carols was to maintain their traditional flavor while making them idiomatic for the guitar.

 Untitled Document
A Christmas Cantata is a work for four part youth chorus which was composed in 1974 in celebration of the Tenth Anniversary of St. <b>Stephenb>'s School in Rome and in honor of that School's founders, Rev. John O. Patterson and Donald L. Stewart.
I am sure that both Father Patterson and Donald Stewart would have been pleased to hear these performances and to learn from them that, in truth, the more St. <b>Stephenb>'s has changed, the more it has remained true to their founding vision.
The narrated text is taken from the Christmas story as recounted in the Gospel according to St. Luke while the texts of the songs were written by myself.

Christmas Traditions: The Feast of <b>Stephenb> - John Loeffler, World Affairs Editor
This, and the observance of Christmas itself, has been the source of much debate, which is not the subject of this article.
For centuries the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve was a radical change from the previous four weeks—this liturgical text became the centerpiece of a number of Baroque and classical compositions.
Those families who want to keep Christ as the center of Christmas may find it easier to do by understanding the various symbols that have been used to celebrate Christ's birth through the ages and using them to retain the uniqueness inherent in the mystery of the incarnation: the birth of the Son of God.

But nowhere is that fact more apparent than at Christmas time - especially as it relates to food preparation.

Christmas in Ireland: Irish Christmas Traditions
Irish Christmas traditions are similar to those found in many western countries: the basic Christmas rituals, such as gift-giving, attending Mass, and decorating trees, are shared by most nations where Christmas is celebrated.
Traditionally, pantomime plays are performed on St. <b>Stephenb>'s day, in which women play the men's roles and vice-versa.
Christmas dinners in Ireland usually consist of the standard fare; turkey, a ham, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc. Among the more traditional Irish elements are spiced beef (spiced over several days, cooked, and then pressed) which can be served either hot or cold.

Kiritimati: A Christmas Visit by <b>Stephenb> Trussel
Christmas Airfield is the "American" doorway to Kiritimati, for another fisherman, the sportsman lured by dreams of trophy bone-fish caught on lightweight fly tackle.
Christmas was never a battle zone like Tarawa, but remnants of the occupation are everywhere, rusting hulks of tank trucks and generators among the palms.
Much of Christmas history is tied to British and American commercial and military ventures, but since 1979, when the British Gilbert Islands Colony became independent as Kiribati (the native spelling of Gilberts), Christmas has been a part of that nation.

POLISH NEWS - Christmas Page - St. <b>Stephenb>'s Day.
In contrast to the quiet of Christmas Day, St. <b>Stephenb>'s was spent in visiting friends and relatives, sometimes driving long distances.
When it finally became known that their ailment was no more than their sudden complete inactivity over the holidays, St. <b>Stephenb>'s became the day on which they were harnessed to sleighs, and taken out for exercise, a custom, which later developed into the all important Polish Kulig.
Electric Christmas light bulbs might be easier to light but they have no fragrance, do not sizzle, nor do they drip a nice warm pink petal-like deposit of wax on the tree's green branches.

 DEC99 NEWSLETTER: The Compleat Mother
Clearly, the facts about Christmas are not very flattering.
The Encyclopedia Americana states: " The reason for establishing December 25 as Christmas is somewhat obscure, but it is usually held that the day was chosen to correspond to pagan festivals that took place around the time of the winter solstice, when the days begin to lengthen, to celebrate the 'rebirth of the sun'...
The book Daily Life in the Time of Jesus states: "The flocks..passed the winter under cover; and from this alone it may be seen that the traditional date for Christmas, in the winter, is unlikely to be right since the Gospel says that the shepherds were in the fields." Henri Daniel Rops pg.

<b>Stephenb> WARBECK A Christmas Carol : Film Music on the Web CD Reviews Jan 2000
Over 29 often very short tracks <b>Stephenb> Warbeck builds a musical tapestry which balances his own new themes with instantly recognisable music of the Christmas season.
'Christmas Polka' offers playful pizzicato piano, 'A Different Side to Scrooge' is both warm and poignant, while 'The End' is upliftingly romantic in the best English tradition.
Several other Christmas melodies appear in various guises, 'The First Noel' and 'God Rest You Merry Gentlemen', between them lie passages of breathless spectral beauty, delicate orchestration shimmering like cold fire balanced between the light and the dark.

maggi dawn: CHRISTMAS 2: St <b>Stephenb>'s Day
In fact the week after Christmas is full of feasts of martyrs: St <b>Stephenb>, the Holy Innocents and Becket himself, as if to remind us that witnessing to Christ has always cost dear, and always will.
