 Sjögren's Syndrome
If you have Sjögren's syndrome you could also have fatigue, joint pain (most often the smaller joints and usually symmetrical - this means affecting the same spot on both sides of the body) and problems in other parts of the body such as the blood vessels, nervous system, muscles, skin and other organs.
If your doctor thinks you might have Sjögren's syndrome he or she will probably perform a physical examination and order other tests.
Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic disorder that causes damage to the salivary glands, resulting in dry mouth, and the tear glands, resulting in dry eyes.

Thirty-six patients with clinically isolated syndrome were identified over the study period of 115 months: Twenty-five were females and mean age at onset was 38.1 years (range 16-73).
The syndromes were: transverse myelitis (50%), cerebral/cerebellar/brainstem involvement (27.8%) and optic neuritis (22.2%).
Because of the heterogeneity of the MS syndrome and its wide variation in symptoms and severity, treatments require optimization.

Sjögren's syndrome -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article
The goals of research on disorders such as Sjogren's syndrome focus on increasing knowledge and under-standing of the disorder, improving diagnostic techniques, and finding ways to treat, prevent, and cure the disorder.
Diagnosing Sjögren’s syndrome is complicated by the range of symptoms a patient may manifest, and the similarity between symptoms from Sjögren's syndrome and those caused by other conditions.
There is no known cure for Sjögren's syndrome nor is there a specific treatment to restore gland secretion.

Fox RI, Howell, FV, Bone RC, Michelson P. Primary Sjogren's syndrome: Clinical and immunopathologic features.
Patients with Sjogren's syndrome (SS), an autoimmune exocrinopathy characterized chiefly by mucosal dryness, also experience CFS-like musculoskeletal21,22 and neurocognitive22,23 symptoms, and the 2 disorders share some similar immunologic defects such as activated T lymphocytes, hyperactive B lymphocytes, impaired natural killer cell activity, and impaired delayed-type hypersensitivity24-28.
Some patients diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) have symptoms commonly observed in Sjogren's syndrome (SS), particularly xerophthalmia and xerostomia, leading to speculation that some patients with CFS might have primary SS or that the 2 disorders share common pathophysiological features.
