 Renal Cell Carcinoma
We conclude that renal cell carcinomas showing extensive necrosis are capable of aggressive behavior, and patients with these lesions cannot be assured of cure following surgery.
One hundred one renal cell carcinomas with sarcomatoid change were studied, and clinicopathologic parameters were correlated with outcome.
The objective of this study was to determine the incidence of RCC with rhabdoid attributes and characterize the histologic, immunophenotypic, and ultrastructural features by retrospective analysis of 480 consecutively identified cases of RCC in radical nephrectomy specimens.

The Mainz Classification of Renal Cell Tumors
The term RCC embraces a group of renal cancers, all of which are derived from the renal tubular epithelium but each with distinct clinical, pathologic, phenotypic, and genotypic features.
Occult renal cell carcinoma may present with distant metastases to lungs, bone, brain, and many other locations.
Collecting duct carcinomas stain positively for cytokeratin 19, ulex europaeus lectin, and vimentin, while urothelial carcinomas stain negatively for vimentin, and RCCs stain negatively for ulex europaeus lectin.

Renal carcinoma in patients undergoing nephrectomy: analysis of survival and prognostic factors
A series of 155 patients who underwent nephrectomy for renal carcinoma between 1965 and 1985 at Manchester Royal Infirmary were analysed for survival in relationship to presenting features, surgical staging and histopathology.
Perinephric fat invasion was also associated with worse survival and this association in the multivariate analysis was more significant than expected, suggesting that the principles of radical surgery should be observed.
