 Refusal Skills
Students will identify high risk behaviors specific to adolescents; and, identify and practice refusal skills that will reduce their risk for engaging in these behaviors.
Each group will be asked to make a list of things (refusal skills) that they could say or do when they are asked to engage in a behavior that could possibly have a negative consequence.
Breaking Point - Students who are armed with refusal skills are less likely to make poor choices and engage in high risk behaviors that lead to lifestyle diseases, substance abuse, and teen pregnancy.

 Sexuality Education
When we think of some of the critical issues surrounding sexuality-such as risky behavior, pressured sex, orientation and gender misunderstanding-a lack of good communication and/or decision-making skills play an important role in the outcome of any situation.
After we finished our two-month training, we had a day-long retreat at Kalamazoo College to practice our skills and put together several skits to perform during our upcoming presentations at area high schools, health fairs, and other events.
Participants will learn Ohio law as it pertains to teen-adult sexual relationships and review the effective prevention activities that can be easily implemented individually or in group sessions.

 Online Encyclopedia - refusal skills
The refusal skills approach of teen celibacy advocates focuses on coaching unmarried high school students how to decline, in a way that promotes self-respect, sexual proposals by others.
It attempts to minimize hurt feelings on the part of the other, while firmly respecting the right of the refuser not to be pressured into premarital sex.

 Strategies to Prevent Underage Drinking
A less intense family involvement approach is based on including parents in homework assignments around issues of alcohol use, thereby increasing the likelihood that alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use is discussed at home, and potentially enhancing parenting skills by increasing communication between parent and child and providing behavioral tips to parents.
Promising family strategies for preventing alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use include structured, home-based parent-child activities; family skills training; behavioral parent training; and behavioral family therapy.
Interactive programs can be further divided into three categories based on their focus on social influences, comprehensive life skills, and system-wide change, respectively.

Sex-ed by the book - The Washington Times: Commentary - November 26, 2004
In general, abstinence education curricula provide valuable character education, relationship education, marriage preparedness, refusal skills, action-and-consequence education, parent-teen communication skills, and factual information on STDs and the ineffectiveness of condoms.
An overwhelming 91 percent say they want their teens taught sex is best when linked to love, intimacy and commitment, most likely in a faithful marriage.
Contrary to the claims of abstinence critics, most schools with an abstinence curriculum still teach the basics about contraception, but they teach it in a different class in order not to undermine the abstinence message.
