Psychiatry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Psychiatry was at first a pragmatic discipline that was part of general medicine, combining medicine and practical psychology.
Many conditions have been linked to biological or chemical abnormalities in the brain's psychology, but for some conditions the etiology and pathogenesis are still the subject of intense research.
Unlike most other areas of medicine, there is an anti-psychiatry movement opposed to the practices of, and in some cases the existence of, psychiatry.
