Dreamer - There have been some success with Dilantin™ (phenytoin) when used for mood disorders, as well as in some case reports of efficacy in neuropathic pain, but failures have far outnumbered the successes.
There has been some renewed interest for it's use in treatment refractory depression and some cases of bipolar disorder depression, but, for the reasons Mitch has mentioned, I believe that the risks of phenytoin far outweigh any potential benefits.
