After elicitation of paraesthesia or when a desired response is evoked by nerve stimulator i.e deltoid motor response, motor response at the elbow the LA is injected with frequent aspiration.
Unfortunately there is no study of paraesthesia versus non- paraesthesia technique related to neuropathy.
Selander et al in 1979 described 8 cases of neuropathy in paraesthesia technique and recommended use of short bevel needle.

Paresthesia (Pins and Needles) - Back Pain - Conditions
Paraesthesia can also be caused pressure on the spinal cord itself (specifically, pressure on the dura mater – the outer-most sheath, or meninx, of the spinal cord); a number of spinal conditions can lead to this.
Paresthesia (or paraesthesia) is the medical term given to pins and needles.
However, for those forms of paraesthesia that are caused by an underlying, spinal, condition we believe that a successful outcome is possible.

The aim of the analysis was to relate patterns of stimulation-induced paraesthesias to the position of the electrodes in the spine.
The most extensive paraesthesia coverage is achieved with tripolar or bipolar stimulation with a single electrode placed over the dorsal columns midline.
One of the problems in the management of chronic pain is the change in pain patterns over time, which can be solved by appropriate steering.

Re: Why do you feel the prickly feeling after releasing pressure on a nerve
The reason that ischemia causes paraesthesia is that eliminating a nerve's blood supply changes the excitability of the nerve.
There are other issues which could be discussed regarding nerve compression, such as the biophysical basis of paraesthesia, but I have omitted them in the interests of space.
These sensations originate from the nerve itself and not the sensory endings; amputees can sometimes experience their non-existent limb "falling asleep"!

 Paresthesia (paraesthesia)
Paresthesia (paraesthesia) is a sensation of tingling, pricking, or numbness of the skin with no apparent physical cause, more generally known as the feeling of pins and needles.
Transient paresthesia is usually caused by inadvertent pressure on a superficial nerve, and disappears gradually as the pressure is relieved.

Is there a wrong way of sleeping? in The AnswerBank: Body & Soul
It's usually accompanied by a burning sensation and pins and needles (paraesthesia) and is usually temporary.
The numbness is usually caused by pressure on the nerves which block the messages from the skin to the brain.
If it happens a lot, check with your GP to make sure everything's OK. Usually, however, it just means your sleep is disturbed.
