Psychological testing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Neuropsychological tests are specifically designed tasks used to measure a psychological function known to be linked to a particular brain structure or pathway.
Of course, individually-administered tests are more expensive to administer because of the need for a trained administrator (psychologist, school psychologist, or psychometrician), and the limitation of working with just one client at a time.
These responses are often compiled into statistical tables that allow the evaluator to compare the behavior of the individual being tested to the responses of a norm group.

Neuropsychological tests are specifically designed tasks used to measure a psychological function known to be linked to a particular brain structure or pathway.
Neuropsychological tests are a core component of the process of conducting neuropsychological assessment.
Most neuropsychological tests in current use are based on traditional psychometric theory.

Development and assessment of a neuropsychological battery to aid in predicting driving performance
We chose the neuropsychological tests that were used in Phase 2 of the present study based on the survey results, and conferences with a neuropsychologist, a neurologist, and a psychologist, who are all authors of the present study.
This study was conducted to select a neuropsychological battery that correlated with driving simulator skills, thus enabling practitioners to provide information to older patients and their families about driving risks.
Previous studies on the effectiveness of neuropsychological tests to assess driving-related skills have had varying results.

 Neuropsychology for Neurologists
Despite neuropsychology's diminished role in the detection and localization of cerebral lesions, most neuropsychological batteries are constructed to assess standard neurobehavioral aspects of brain impairment associated with focal brain lesions or obtained through the study of patients with traditional neurobehavioral syndromes.
Not all patients with cognitive or behavioral deficits from brain injury should be referred for neuropsychological assessment.
The norms that exist for patients with limited education simply do not exist, and the sensitivity of all neuropsychological tests is less at the low extreme of the distribution.

 Neuropsych Tests
Analysis of the pattern of performance among a large number of tests is key to a neuropsychological assessment.
In almost all objective tests, quantitative results are compared with some normative standard, including data from groups of non-brain injured persons and groups of persons with various kinds of brain injury.
In order to keep test content and applications confidential to preserve their clinical usefulness, this information is restricted to general comments.

Neuropsychological Approaches for the Detection and Evaluation of Toxic Symptoms
Sensory tests are not as plentiful and have not received as much emphasis in the literature on neurotoxicants as many of the tests of cognition and memory.
The typical evaluation paradigm in which the patient's neuropsychological performance and physical status is assessed at an arbitrary point in time is not likely to capture the symptomatic response that these patients observe in themselves under exposure conditions.
Documentation of the effects of varied test parameters has been the subject of much attention within the experimental literature (e.g., signal-detection paradigms) and virtually no systematic attention within the neuropsychological literature or in the literature investigating the behavioral effects of neurotoxicants.

Involvement in neuropsychological activity versus other areas of psychology identified the least active psychologist as spending less than 10% versus the most active psychologist who spends at least 30% of their time in activities devoted strictly to neuropsychology.
The concept of using the neuropsychological evaluation itself to determine pre-injury abilities is noted by Guilmette (1994) who indicated that examination of the pattern of test results can determine the relative strengths and weaknesses of the patient.
On the average 73% of the tests administered were performed by the psychologist, as opposed to the trained technician.

eMedicine - Neuropsychological Evaluation : Article by Atif B Malik, MD
Neuropsychological testing provides diagnostic clarification and grading of the clinical severity of impairment for patients with subclinical or obvious cognitive deficits.
However, neuropsychological tests are of limited utility by themselves and must be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical, imaging, physical examination, and laboratory information.
Consequently, situational assessment is seen as a critical adjunct to neuropsychological assessment, especially at higher levels of cognitive functioning.

 NAN Position Paper: Test Security
A major practice activity of neuropsychologists is the evaluation of behavior with neuropsychological test procedures.
If a request to release test data or a recorded examination places the psychologist or neuropsychologist in possible conflict with ethical principles and directives, the professional should take reasonable steps to maintain test security and thereby fulfill his or her professional obligations.
Copying test protocols, video and/or audiotaping a psychological or neuropsychological evaluation for release to a non-psychologist violates the Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct (APA, 1992), by placing confidential test procedures in the public domain (APA Principle 2.10), and by making tests available to persons unqualified to interpret them (APA Principles 2.02, 2.06).

Suggested Uses: It is suggested that the HRNB is a more than adequate neuropsychological instrument for use in clinical and research settings.
The authors offer convincing data favoring clearer brain damage localization with the HRNB for acute lesions rather than more chronic neuropathology.
The purpose of this battery is to provide the clinician with a database for inferring the nature, location, and extent of the structural changes in the brain that may underlie and explain the pattern of intact and impaired functions derived from the measures and qualitative information yielded by the battery.
