The Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship Program is a three-year program designed to train pediatricians by providing the necessary clinical and research skills to enable them to pursue an academic career in pediatric nephrology.
The fellow begins research training and may choose a project in either basic or clinical science. Clinical responsibilities will be limited to an outpatient clinic one afternoon a week and on-call responsibilities are similar to year one.
The fellow is expected to complete a research project in order to sit for the Pediatric Nephrology Subspecialty Board Examination. This usually requires submission of a first-author presentation related to the research. Opportunities exist with several scientist-nephrologists at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania or clinical research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. A NIH training grant is available for eligible fellows.
