Microbiology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Veterinary microbiology: The study of the role in microbes in veterinary medicine.
It was not until the work of Martinus Beijerinck (1851-1931) and Sergei Winogradsky (1856-1953), the founders of “general microbiology” (an older term encompassing aspects of microbial physiology, diversity and ecology), that the true breadth of microbiology was revealed.
Louis Pasteur is most famous for his series of experiments designed to disprove the then widely held theory of spontaneous generation, thereby solidifying microbiology’s identity as a biological science.

 Microbiology At OSU
Microbiology is a dynamic discipline of the biological sciences with microbes playing major roles in the life and death of humans, animals, and plants, in the quality and safety of our food supplies, in the health and sustainability of our air, land, and water, in biowarfare and homeland security.
The faculty of the department takes pride in maintaining a campus-wide prominence through educating our students about the microbial world, and through research that improves our understanding of the characteristics and roles of the microorganisms that share our world.
Because microorganisms play central roles in other disciplines of science, microbiology has evolved into an extremely interactive discipline among the sciences.
