 Johns Hopkins Medicine Stereotactic Radiosurgery
Meningiomas can invade the bone or muscle, but such invasion is not a sign of malignancy.
For surgery of skull base meningiomas involving the cavernous sinus, medial temporal fossa, clivus and medial petrous temporal regions, the surgery has higher complication rates (ref) In this study a large number of preoperative, intraoperative, and follow-up findings were analyzed for correlation with the extent of resection.
All of these categories are histologically and clinically "benign." Other variants, discussed elsewhere, are not benign and include the atypical meningioma, malignant meningoma, angioblastic meningioma.

 CancerBACUP : Meningioma
Meningiomas make up nearly 20% of all primary brain tumours.
A meningioma is a tumour of the meninges, which are the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord (see Figure 1).
It may be used after surgery for malignant meningioma to reduce the chance of the tumour coming back.

The goal of surgery is always to remove the meningioma totally, including the fibers that attach it to the coverings of the brain and bone.
Tumor vaccines work much like vaccines for other diseases by stimulating the body’s natural defenses.

Meningiomas - CyberKnife® Stereotactic Radiosurgery System
For most meningiomas, treatment with conventional radiation is not as aggressive or successful as radiosurgery, and therefore, represents a second line of therapy.
The complication rate of surgical resection is highest for meningiomas around the skull base.

These problems should be managed in conjunction with a multidisciplinary approach (eg, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy).
Stereotactic radiosurgery has been advocated as an effective management strategy for small meningiomas and for meningiomas involving the skull base or the cavernous sinus.
The study of meningiomas is advancing rapidly in the fields of basic science and surgical techniques.

This surgical procedure, that does not require opening up the skull, is applicable for localized tumors of a certain size, including glioblastoma multiforme, astrocytoma, meningioma, pineal and pituitary tumors, etc. Being completely computer controlled, the process is extremely precise, which means that the risk of side effects and surgical complications is minimal.
It can be stated that finally there is a surgical method for brain tumors that can be regarded as truly safe, or at least as safe as any brain surgery can be.
The information contained in our reports has been obtained from progressive oncologists around the world, as well as from research scientists, cancer specialists, clinics and doctors.

Asymmetric Cranial Hyperostosis on Bone Scintigraphy
The patient underwent a craniotomy and biopsy of the lesion which was a meningioma containing a focus of metastatic breast carcinoma.
Hyperostosis frontalis interna is a benign condition of uncertain etiology in which there is symmetric thickening of the inner table of the frontal bone of the skull (1).
The incidence of meningiomas in breast cancer patients is twice the expected value, suggesting an association between the two malignancies.

Feline Brain Tumor - A Story of Skribbles
These tumors are usually non-malignant, but as they grow they put pressure on the brain until functioning is affected.
The scan showed a large (walnut size) tumor, or meningioma, on the right side, between the skull and the brain.
Therefore, a CT scan was ordered ($900.00) which was done under anesthesia.
