 BMJ Education and debate
It is said that Medline lacks comprehensive references in the fields of psychology, medical sociology, and non-clinical pharmacology.
Subheadings are the fine tuning of the Medline indexing system; they classify articles on a particular MeSH topic into aetiology, prevention, therapy, and so on.
Furthermore, a number of important medical and paramedical journals are not covered by Medline at all.

Because the name "MEDLINE" had a quarter-century exposure to the health professions, and because that database was now also increasingly known to the public, the Library called the new service MEDLINEplus (http://medlineplus.gov).

 EBM Toolkit- Medline Glossary
Medline: an electronic index to the contents of biomedical and health sciences journals published since 1966.
Because indexing norms require that the most specific subject heading available be applied, normally an article indexed under the specific heading would not also be indexed under the broader heading; thus, searching only the broad subject would result in lost references which have been indexed under the more specific heading.
Subheadings: generic terms to narrow and focus a MeSH subject heading search; on OVID systems, the scope of each subheading is presented on the right hand panel of the search screen where subheadings are selected.

MEDLINE SUBJECT HEADINGS MEDLINE uses Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), a specific list of terms, to arrange journal articles by topic.
PubMed ( HYPERLINK "http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/) provides out-of-scope citations from certain Medline journals, primarily general science and chemistry journals, citations that precede the date a journal was selected for Medline indexing, and some additional titles from PubMed Central reviewed by NLM.
