 Chronic Intestinal Pseudo obstruction
Chronic abdominal pain or the fear of pain is a common complaint in children with chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction and may be treated with behavioral or relaxation therapy as well as with non-narcotic medicines.
The symptoms of intestinal pseudo-obstruction are caused by a problem in how the muscles and nerves in the intestines work.
However, much more research is needed before determining if pacing will be effective for treating intestinal motility disorders.

THE MERCK MANUAL, Sec. 3, Ch. 25, Acute Abdomen And Surgical Gastroenterology
Every patient with possible intestinal obstruction should be hospitalized.
Simple intubation with a long intestinal tube, rather than surgery, may be attempted in treating early postoperative obstruction or repeated obstruction caused by adhesions in the absence of peritoneal signs.
Severe intestinal distention is self-perpetuating and progressive, intensifying the peristaltic and secretory derangements and increasing the risks of dehydration, ischemia, necrosis, perforation, peritonitis, and death.

 Intestinal Obstruction
Intestinal obstruction is blockage of the inside of the intestines by an actual mechanical obstruction.
Ileus may be the result of anesthesia, interruption of nerve supply to the bowel, intestinal ischemia (obstruction of circulation), abdominal wound infections, electrolyte imbalance (loss of potassium leads to lack of intestinal peristalsis) or metabolic diseases.

USATODAY.com - New rotavirus vaccines on way
The only U.S.-licensed rotavirus vaccine was pulled from the market in 1999 after it was discovered that some babies developed an intestinal obstruction called intussusception shortly after immunization.
A new generation of vaccines to prevent rotavirus, the most common cause of severe diarrhea in children, could be approved for use in Latin America in the next few months and could be available in the USA within two years, scientists said at a conference this week.
Two oral vaccines in development use different formulas that make them less likely to cause side effects, said Ciro de Quadros of the Sabin Vaccine Institute, a speaker at the Sixth International Rotavirus Symposium in Mexico City.

 Daily Times - Site Edition
ISLAMABAD: Infants and young children who take antibiotics may have an increased risk of developing a rare type of intestinal blockage, according to a new study.
“This is the first preliminary study to describe that antibiotic can contribute to the development of intussusception, the most common form of intestinal obstruction in young children aged between 3-6 years,” said Dr David M Spiro.
Researchers think that antibiotics may be just one of several factors that contribute to intestinal blockage in young children.
