Hernia - Symptoms, Treatment and Prevention
Incisional hernia: This is a hernia that occurs at the site of a surgical incision.
A hernia may develop in almost any part of the body; however, the muscles of the abdominal wall are most commonly affected.
One major danger of a hernia is that if bowel is contained within the protruding loop it may hinder or stop the flow through the intestine (occlusion).

 MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Hernia repair
Tissue such as intestine can become trapped in the hernia (incarcerated hernia).
A direct hernia occurs when the intestine passes through the muscle layers of the abdominal wall into the groin.
Most hernias should be repaired to prevent the possible complications of restricted blood flow or blocked intestine.

 Inguinal Hernia
Hernias also may develop in other areas of the body.
However, lifting a heavy object or doing other activities that put pressure on the abdominal muscles, such as frequent coughing or straining when urinating or having a bowel movement, are thought to cause a hernia.

Unfortunately, in many cases the hernia recurs and the surgery has to be repeated.
Surgery is the only effective cure for a groin hernia.
The operation for a groin hernia is one of the commonest surgical procedures.

Indirect inguinal hernias are more common in the young as it is due to a congenital defect in the processes vaginalis whilst direct inguinal hernias are more common in the elderly as they are cause by mechanical breakdown of the fascia over many years.

 Indirect inguinal hernia
During surgical repair, or herniorraphy, a surgeon recognizes the "indirect" hernia by noting that its bulge begins lateral to the inferior epigastric vessels, indicating that it arose at the top of the inguinal canal.
Conversely, the "direct" inguinal hernia enters part way down the canal through a weak point in the canal's posterior wall, and its bulge is noted to be medial to these vessels.
An Indirect inguinal hernia is ultimately the result of the failure of embryonic closure of the internal inguinal ring after passage through it of the testicle and the trailing supply of blood vessels and nerves which make up the spermatic cord.

 ***Reminder: Please read***
Back on June 12th of this year I had surgery for an indirect inguinal hernia.
I am writing to ask for some help and some advice.
I did have a follow up with the surgeon, and I asked him why my testicles weren't hanging correctly at times.
