 Hypoparathyroidism
Symptoms and findings associated with Hypoparathyroidism may include weakness, muscle cramps, excessive nervousness, headaches, and/or increased excitability (hyperexcitability) of nerves resulting in uncontrollable twitching and cramping spasms of certain muscles such as those of the hands, feet, arms, and/or face (tetany).
The purpose of the study is to compare the long-term effects of hPTH and calcitriol therapy on the metabolism of calcium in the body.
Affected individuals may also experience increased excitability (hyperexcitability) of nerves resulting in uncontrollable cramping spasms of certain muscles, particularly those of the hands, feet, arms, and/or face (tetany).

Hypoparathyroidism and too little parathyroid hormone. A complication from parathyroid surgery and thyroid surgery.
The symptoms of hypoparathyroidism are synonymous with hypocalcemia and can range from quite mild (tingling in the hands, fingers, and around the mouth) to more severe forms of muscle cramps leading all the way to tetany (severe muscle cramping of the entire body), and convulsions (this is very rare!).
Therefore, these rare individuals have plenty of PTH, but their organs do not behave appropriately to it (so they look to be hypoparathyroid but they are not...thus the name "pseudo-hypoparathyroid").
Some patients have found that it makes their disease much more manageable, wile others simply say that the drug makes them feel worse or doesn't help at all.

Hypoparathyroidism is part of the Barakat or HDR (Hypoparathyroidism, nerve Deafness, and Renal dysplasia) syndrome (MIM # 146255) [34,35].
The phenotype is highly variable and patients may not express all elements of the basic triad, leading to the suggestion that the criteria used for molecular screening be relaxed [57].
The goal of treatment in hypoparathyroid states is to raise the serum calcium sufficiently to alleviate acute symptoms and prevent the complications of chronic hypocalcemia [129].
