Humerus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The glenohumeral joint is stabilized by the rotator cuff muscles and the tendon of the long head of the biceps brachii muscle.
The rotator cuff muscles attach at the proximal humerus, and can rotate and abduct the arm at the shoulder.
Also known as the "shoulder joint," it is a ball-and-socket joint, which allows a wide range of movement.

Elbow-joint - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Above, it is attached to the humerus immediately behind the capitulum and close to the medial margin of the trochlea, to the margins of the olecranon fossa, and to the back of the lateral epicondyle some little distance from the trochlea.
Flexion and extension of the elbow-joint are limited by the tension of the structures on the front and back of the joint; the limitation of flexion is also aided by the soft structures of the arm and forearm coming into contact.
In full flexion the movement of the radial head is hampered by the compression of the surrounding soft parts, so that the freest rotatory movement of the radius on the humerus (pronation and supination) takes place in semiflexion, in which position the two articular surfaces are in most intimate contact.

THE PNEUMATIC FOSSA OF THE HUMERUS IN THE PASSERES
But, at present, little is known about the functional meaning of the fossa and of the evolutionary changes from the single-fossa condition to the double-fossa condition, and it is not possible to ascertain the taxonomic value of the pneumatic fossa at this time.
From the structure of the "double-fossa" condi- tion in the gulls and in the passerines, it seems reasonable to assume that the muscles attaching to the fossae in the two groups have different func- tional relationships to the structure of the fossa and have evolved because of different selective demands on the birds.

eMedicine - Distal Humerus Fractures : Article by Edward Yian, MD
Regarding surgical exposure for distal humerus fractures, up to a 40% nonunion rate has been reported from chevron osteotomy outcomes, although some authors contend that poor technique is often the source of the complications.
Surgical therapy: Recent studies have supported the notion that distal humerus fractures in adults are optimally treated with open anatomic reduction and stable fixation to allow early anatomic restoration and upper extremity range of motion.
Factors that should be considered include the patient's age, overall health condition, functional demands and expectations, and the overlying soft tissue quality and bone quality.

 Gross Anatomy: THE SHOULDER GIRDLE
Humerus pulled either anterior to or posterior to shoulder joint depending upon which rotator cuff muscles are injured.
When the scapula is passively protracted by action of the pectoralis major muscle on the humerus, the serratus anterior acts to stabilize the scapula and keep it applied to the thoracic wall.
The shoulder or pectoral girdle consists of articulations between the clavicle, scapula and the proximal end of the humerus.

Moreover, the Teres major muscle inserts farther away from the shoulder joint on the inside of the humerus as for cats of group one and two, indicating a restricted action of movements of the joint, which in turn imposes limits on the rate of stride (HILDEBRAND, 1989).

Chapter 23 On the Humerus or Arm Bone
All of this is because of the surrounding muscles, which, when you have understood their nature, will seem to have elegantly compressed the bone of their own volition.
For ligaments are inserted into this circular depression which spreads and becomes wide and deep like a valley more in the anterior portion of the humerus than in the posterior.
I believe no one will fail to see that I understand the depression following the muscle is concave and that the head following the convexity of the muscle is smoothly rounded, as long as it is understood that all depressions are hollow and things carried in them or lying therein are convex.

The elbow flexion and extension of the elbow, the thing we associate with elbowness, comes from the ulna to humerus articulation.
The deep plane muscles of the shoulder attach with tendons that essentially join side by side into one continuous cuff - the rotator cuff.
The main action for which we think of the elbow is not pronation (palm down) nor supination (palm up) but it is involved in that process.

Anconeus muscles attach to lateral surfaces of ulnas’ olecranon processes and to posterior surfaces of humerus’ lateral epicondyles.   When anconeus muscles contract, ulnas’ olecranon processes and humerus’ posterior surfaces move closer together.   Anconeus muscles extend, laterally extend and medially extend ulnas.   During forearm accelerations, anconeus muscles medially extend elbow joints.
During forearm accelerations, triceps brachii II muscles combine with medial epicondyle muscles to medially extend elbow joints.
However, when humerus bones rotate while ulna bones flex or extend, then elbow joint movements combine shoulder joint, elbow and wrist movements.   To explain these combinations, I created four more elbow joint actions.

Fracture of the Condyle of the Distal Humerus - DynoMed.com
In general, bone fractures are classified by the amount of displacement of the bone that occurs.  Recommended treatment and follow-up care is based on whether or not the bone has been displaced and in what way.  Displaced means that the bone parts have moved away from one another.
Determining whether or not a condyle is fractured can be difficult.  In order to make the determination, the doctor will need to take a series of X-rays.
The most common kind of broken elbow is a break above the condyle (called supracondylar).  The other type is a fracture of the condyle of the distal humerus.

The humerus of Eusthenopteron compares well with those of other osteolepiforms and rhizodonts, although there are minor differences in the shapes and positions of the processes; this humeral morphology is assumed to be primitive relative to that of tetrapods.
