The hepatic artery: a reminder of surgical anatomy
The arterial patterns are of importance in planning and performance of all surgical and radiological procedures in the upper abdomen.
This study was carried out to document the anatomy of the hepatic artery with the purpose of reminding surgeons of the need for this essential knowledge in order to practice safe hepatobiliary surgery.

Treatment of ischemic hepatitis is concentrated on treating the underlying cause and thereby restoring blood flow to the liver.
Ischemic hepatitis is often of less immediate concern than are the problems resulting from the cause of the reduced blood flow, such as shock resulting from severe heart failure.
Narrowing or blockage of the hepatic artery can have various causes, including injuries, such as a gunshot wound or surgical trauma, or blood clots.

Despite conservative treatment, the patient's condition continued to deteriorate, and he was taken to the operating room for evacuation of the subcapsular hematoma and intraoperative liver biopsy.
Several cases of spontaneous hepatic rupture associated with amyloidosis have been reported in the medical literature.
Review of the patient's other radiographs demonstrated lytic bony lesions (Fig 5), strongly suggesting that this is a case of secondary amyloidosis related to multiple myeloma.

Hepatic artery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hepatic artery is an artery that distributes blood to the liver, pancreas and gallbladder as well as to the stomach and duodenal portion of the small intestine.
The two latter ones may form a trifurcation with gastroduodenal artery in which case the proper hepatic artery is absent.
It begins as the common hepatic artery and subsequently bifurcates into several branches which include proper hepatic artery, left hepatic artery, and right hepatic artery.

AllRefer.com - liver (Anatomy And Physiology) - Encyclopedia
Several diseases states can affect the liver, such as hepatitis (an inflammation of the liver) and cirrhosis (a chronic inflammation that progresses ultimately to organ failure).
Bile salts emulsify fats, a process that prepares the latter for digestion by the intestinal enzymes (see digestive system).
One of the liver's major functions is the manufacture and secretion of bile, which is stored in the gall bladder and released in the small intestine.

 Hepatic Artery Perfusion Scan
The liver shows two large foci of photopenia, one within the lateral aspect of the right lobe in the posterior segment, and one in the medial portion of the superior left lobes that corresponds with the patient's history of thermal ablation.
The patient is a 66 year-old female with liver masses and status post placement of a hepatic artery infusion port.
The port was then flushed with heparin solution and imaging was initiated 10 minutes post-injection.

Nearer its pyloric than its cardiac end is a well-marked notch, the incisura angularis, which varies somewhat in position with the state of distension of the viscus; it serves to separate the stomach into a right and a left portion.
The arteries break up at the base of the gastric tubules into a plexus of fine capillaries which run upward between the tubules, anastomosing with each other, and ending in a plexus of larger capillaries, which surround the mouths of the tubes, and also form hexagonal meshes around the ducts.
From these the veins arise, and pursue a straight course downward, between the tubules, to the submucous tissue; they end either in the lienal and superior mesenteric veins, or directly in the portal vein.

 Liver Cancer
The hepatic artery, which supplies blood to the liver, is blocked and chemotherapy drugs are injected directly into the liver.
In this procedure, cancer treatment is delivered directly to the liver tumor with a minimum of toxicity to the rest of the body.
Response rates have been as high as 60 percent to 80 percent.

 Hepatic Artery Perfusion Scan
Comparison is made with the prior study dated 04/25/02 and the CT scan of the chest and abdomen dated 04/17/03.
There has been interval development of multiple foci of abnormal increased uptake within the hepatic parenchyma, appearing to involve both the right and left hepatic lobes.
At least three discrete new foci of abnormal increased activity are evident within the chest, one near the midline and one each occupying the lateral aspect of the thoracic cavity, bilaterally.

 SubIntima - Hepatic Artery
The liver actually has two blood supplies: the hepatic artery, which supplies oxygenated blood to the liver's cells; and the portal vein, which brings in blood to be processed and sent out the hepatic veins, which lead to the inferior vena cava.
The hepatic artery comprises the liver's arterial blood supply.
