HIV test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The test proceeds by the general ELISA method: the person's serum is diluted 400 fold and applied to a plate to which HIV antigens have been attached.
About 80% of positive ELISA tests are followed by a negative Western-Blot test, and therefore regarded as false positive.
But if less than 1 in 7,500 people in the group being test are infected with HIV, then over 90% of the positive results will be false positive.

 AIDS (HIV) TEST
A positive test doesn't mean you have AIDS, but it does mean you have the HIV virus in your body.
Therefore, if you test negative for HIV initially, you should be retested 6 months later after the last possible exposure (unprotected vaginal, anal, or oral sex or sharing needles).
The virus may be transmitted during unprotected sexual activity with an infected partner, when needles are shared, and when contaminated blood or body fluids are exchanged from one person to another, and during pregnancy or breast-feeding, if the mother is infected.
