Cell Biology And Molecular Genetics Genetics and Genomics
In addition to formal courses, the program provides opportunities for critical discussion of the scientific literature through seminar courses and journal clubs.
For instance, research groups that utilize similar genetic approaches in eukaryotic model systems hold a monthly meeting called GEMS (= Genetics with Eukaryotic Model Systems), in which members present and discuss their research in an informal setting.
The Genetics and Genomics specialization is an integral part of the new graduate program of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics (CBMG).

 Conservation genetics
Conservation Genetics is a relatively new journal, entirely devoted to this topic (http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/1566-0621/contents).
Various authors have pointed to the use of genetics as a way of monitoring the "information content" of biodiversity (e.g., Crozier, 1997).
Conservation genetics as a distinct discipline became prominent in the early 1980s (Schonewald-Cox et al., 1983; see Falk and Holsinger, 1991 and Ellstrand and Elam, 1993 for plant-based perspectives).

Researchers Claim To Have Genome Scan Of 'Sexual Orientation' In Men
The study, "A genomewide scan of male sexual orientation," is published in the journal Human Genetics.
Good science begins with a strong hypothesis not with a "fishing expedition" which is interpreted as something other than for what it is. Complex behaviors such as those involved with sexual orientation are likely polygenic and multifactoral--at the very most predispositions whose emergence and maintenance is strongly influenced by cultural and environmental factors.
The researchers' attempt to manipulate the data to come up with something meaningful was not realized.

Genetic Future Weblog: Single Gene Responsible for Fruit Fly Sexual Orientation
The results of a study published this week suggest an undeniable connection between genetics and sexual behavior -- at least with fruit flies.
A male fly's sexual courtship of a female fly is a complicated business of tapping, singing, wing vibration, and licking, but a single gene is all that is needed to produce this complex behavior, according to new research published in this week's issue of the journal Cell.
Furthermore, fruit flies have been a hot subject for study since 2000, when it was discovered that they employ eerily similar genetic mechanisms as humans for morphological development into adults.
