 Ganglion cysts - DynoMed.com
Many sufferers choose the wait-and-see approach as their first option.  In this case, the patient may find it helpful to take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen or naprosyn for the times when there is pain.  Sometimes, wrapping the wrist or wearing a splint, which applies a bit of pressure, can also alleviate the pain.
While some cysts cause no pain, many do, especially when they first appear or when the hand or wrist are used often.  The tenderness may eventually restrict the range of movements.
But, if those steps don't work, or if the cyst begins to interfere with daily life, aspiration or surgery might be called for.
