Eating disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As the treatments prescribed for eating disorders can take decades, mental health advocates warn that early "identification" of these disorders (and diagnosis of the syndrome as being caused by mental illness) may be the difference between life and death for the patient.
An eating disorder is a mental illness in that a person eats in a way which disturbs their physical health.
People whose eating is disordered in these ways experience psychological suffering, typically becoming obsessed with food, diet and often body image, and their health is at extreme risk due to malnutrition.

 Binge Eating Disorder
Impulsive behavior and certain other psychological problems may be more common in people with binge eating disorder.
This disorder is different from binge-purge syndrome (bulimia nervosa) because people with binge eating disorder usually do not purge afterward by vomiting or using laxatives.
Obese people with binge eating disorder often feel bad about themselves, are preoccupied with their appearance, and may avoid social gatherings.

Differential Diagnosis of Addictive Sexual Disorders Using the DSM-IV
Axis I diagnoses are clinical disorders, including cognitive disorders (such as delirium, dementia, and amnesia), mood disorders (such as depression or bipolar illness), anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, substance-related disorders, dissociative disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and impulse-control disorders.
Even when diminished control over one's behavior is a feature of the disorder, having the diagnosis in itself does not demonstrate that a particular individual is (or was) unable to control his or her behavior at a particular time.
In the differential diagnosis of sexual improprieties and excesses, Axis II characterologic disorders and traits are often contributory, or may be considered the primary etiology of paraphilic sexual behavior.

This may mean that the cause behind eating disorders may lie within the immune system.
Although the exact causes of the eating disorders are unknown, recent research has suggested that an abnormality in the nerves of the area of the brain that controls hunger may be to blame.
A new study suggests that eating disorders may stem from some of type of immune system abnormality that causes other difficult-to-treat diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and lupus.
