Topic: Dendritic cell

 Welcome
Dendritic Cell (DC) Therapy or so-called Dendritic Cell vaccine is a newly emerging and potent form of immune therapy used to treat cancer, AIDS and other serious conditions.
In case of cancer, Dendritic Cell therapy is an immune therapy which harnesses the body's own immune system to fight cancer.
As Dr. Harmon Eyre, the VP of Research at the AMA commented on results of DC therapy for cancer: “Patients' responses are far out of proportion to anything that any current therapy could do”.

Dendritic cell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In some respects, dendritic cells cultured in vitro do not show the same behavior or capability as dendritic cells isolated ex vitro, but they are often used for research, as they are still much more readily available than genuine DCs.
The best studied example is DC-SIGN (usually on MDC subset 1, but other subsets under certain conditions; since not all dendritic cell subsets expresss DC-SIGN, its exact role in sexual HIV-1 transmission is not clear).
Altered function of dendritic cells is also known to play a major or even key role in allergy and autoimmune diseases like lupus erythematosus.
