 ACBI -- some definitions
The clinical chemist applies the techniques of analytical chemistry and biochemistry to obtain diagnostic and prognostic information about patients, and to investigate the evolution of disease and response to therapy.
Such designations as clinical biochemistry and chemical pathology cover the same field and, in practice, there are substantial overlaps between clinical chemistry and other clinical laboratory sciences, especially haematology, immunology, physiology and pharmacology (Dybkær 1984, p.11).
Members of the ACBI are graduates in science and medicine who work as clinical biochemists in hospitals and related institutions.

 RETURNING TO CLINICAL BIOCHEMISTRY
Those that have been out of the profession for longer periods, would find it difficult to maintain their CPD, and many have lost their registration as a consequence of the time period, would have to re-enter through Grade B (8-16) posts where there would be a training (in the individuals case re-training) element.
This has been considered at some length by the Education Committee of the Association of Clinical Biochemists whose conclusion was that, because the profession is small it is not practical to set up such a programme.
There are no formal programmes through which Clinical Biochemists can return to the profession.
