 Tai Chi Chuan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Traditional T'ai Chi training is intended to teach awareness of one's own balance and what affects it, awareness of the same in others, an appreciation of the practical value in one's ability to moderate extremes of behavior and attitude at both mental and physical levels, and how this applies to effective self-defense principles.
T'ai Chi Ch'uan is considered a soft style martial art, an art applied with as complete a relaxation or "softness" in the musculature as possible, to distinguish its theory and application from that of the hard martial art styles which use a degree of tension in the muscles.
T'ai Chi Ch'uan's theories and practice are therefore believed by some schools to have been formulated by the Taoist monk Chang San-feng in the 12th century, a time frame fitting well with when the principles of the Neo-Confucian school were making themselves felt in Chinese intellectual life.

 ACS :: Tai Chi
There is no scientific evidence that tai chi cures cancer or any other disease, however, it may be useful as a complementary therapy to conventional treatment.
Tai chi is based on the philosophy of Taoism, a Chinese belief system first developed in the 6th century BC that also includes qigong and acupuncture (see Qigong and Acupunture).
Research has shown tai chi is useful as a form of exercise that may improve posture, balance, muscle mass and tone, flexibility, stamina, and strength in older adults.

 tai chi
It is believed that tai chi, a component of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), increases strength and promotes calm and harmony by improving the flow of internal energy (or qi) throughout the body.
People who practice tai chi are also said to exploit the strength of yin (the earth) and the energy of yang (the heavens) through exercises designed to express these forces in balanced and harmonious form.
Tai chi can be used as a preventive health measure, as a way to maintain good health, or to help with a specific ailment.

Tai chi is both a preventive and a complementary therapy for a wide range of conditions.
Others believe that tai chi works in the same way as other mind-body therapies, and there is ample evidence that paying attention to the connection between the mind and the body can relieve stress, combat disease, and enhance physical well-being.
As are many practices from the East, tai chi is based on spiritual and philosophical ideas that advocate a need for balance in the body, mind, and spirit.

 Chi Square Tutorial
Typically, the hypothesis tested with chi square is whether or not two different samples (of people, texts, whatever) are different enough in some characteristic or aspect of their behavior that we can generalize from our samples that the populations from which our samples are drawn are also different in the behavior or characteristic.
Statistical significance does not help you to interpret the nature or explanation of that relationship; that must be done by other means (including bivariate tabular analysis and qualitative analysis of the data).
Shared variance is the portion of the total behavior (or distribution) of the variables measured in the sample data which is accounted for by the relationship we've already detected with our chi square.
