Non-small cell lung cancer, treatment, staging, radiation, chemotherapy, lung cancer overview
Lung photodynamic therapy is recommended as a potentially curative treatment for microinvasive endobronchial cancer in patients who are not good candidates for or have refused surgery or radiation.
However, photodynamic therapy may be considered for some operable cancers, for cancers that are inoperable because of high surgical risk or limited pulmonary function or because they are multicentric, and for cancer in patient who refuse surgery.
Careful preoperative assessment of the patient's overall medical condition, especially the patient's pulmonary reserve, is critical in considering the benefits of surgery.

With non-small lung cancer, surgery is the preferred option and is invariably used for early stage lung cancers, except when the patient has other significant health problems which create risks for surgery.
Thus, two of the classic non-specific symptoms of lung cancer are shortness of breath and chest pain.
This again highlights the fact that this book is not designed to treat any patient but as a resource source for you to use under the guidance of the physician you select.

 Re: How do spiders breathe?
In some spiders both pairs are book lungs, in a few both are tracheae, but in most cases the anterior pair are book lungs and the posterior pair are tracheae.
Since the spider's heart is continually pumping deoxygenated haemolymph through the book lungs, the concentration of oxygen in the air in the book lungs is always higher than in the haemolymph, and therefore oxygen will move from the air into the haemolymph down an oxygen gradient.
It is generally assumed that there has been a gradual evolutionary change from book lungs to tracheae, possibly in response to the need to conserve water, since a great deal can be lost across the large surface area of the book lung.
