Topic: Blindness

Blindness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blindness can be defined physiologically as the condition of lacking visual perception.
Blindness is defined as visual acuity of less than 3/60, or corresponding visual field loss to less than 10 degrees, in the better eye with best possible correction.
This means that a legally blind individual would have to stand 20 feet from an object to see it with the same degree of clarity as a normally sighted person could from 200 feet.

Color blindness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most color blind persons have learned their vulnerabilities and are acutely aware of just which colors will be confused.
In academic studies of color blindness, on the other hand, there is more interest in developing flexible tests ([1], for example) to collect thorough datasets, identify copunctal points, and measure just noticeable differences.
Higher brain areas implicated in color processing include the parvocellular pathway of the lateral geniculate nucleus of the thalamus, and visual area V4 of the visual cortex.

 Who Is Blind?
In my way of thinking it is this: One is blind to the extent that he must devise alternative techniques to do efficiently those things which he would do with sight if he had normal vision.
In fact, if a blind person found himself in such a situation, he might very well have a variety of techniques to use.
On the other hand, anyone with less vision than that mentioned in the legal definition will usually (I emphasize the word usually, for such is not always the case) need to devise so many such alternative techniques as to alter quite substantially his patterns of daily living.
