This monthly journal publishes fundamental research on the properties of polymeric biomaterials and the mechanisms of interaction between such biomaterials and living organisms, with attention being focused at the molecular and cellular levels.
Biomaterials may be defined as materials which are used in contact with tissue, blood, cells, proteins and any other living substance.
For example, they may form the basis for tissue engineering and the development of artificial organs and non-thrombogenic materials, devices and systems for diagnosis and therapy, cell cultivation substrata, cell-sorters, membranes, adsorbents, biosensors and delivery systems for bioactive agents.
