Bile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Besides its digestive function, bile serves as the route of excretion for the hemoglobin breakdown product (bilirubin) which gives bile its colour.
This mixture, applied to textiles a few hours before washing, is a traditional and rather effective method for removing various kinds of tough stains.
Emulsified droplets then are organized into many micelles which increases absorption.

At Aberystwyth research interests in ecological parasitology focus on the ecological consequences of host behaviour change, the parasite fauna of introduced species, modelling transmission in natural populations and identifying the molecular mechanisms of behaviour change via proteomic approaches.
As parasites themselves have an understanding of host structure and function, then parasitology provides an excellent interactive academic backdrop to study many aspects of zoology including invertebrate and vertebrate biology, immunology and behavioural biology and ecology.
Postgraduate opportunities (PhD) and graduate research posts are regularly available within the group, such as a BBSRC CASE studentship with Pfizer Ltd starting next October.

The same occurred in the second experiment so it was decided to stop at this point also.
During the first experiment, no colour change had occurred after 6780 seconds.
Therefore, what the results indicate is that an increase in the concentration of bile salts results in a much faster emulsification of the fat, which then in turn allows the lipids to act upon these smaller fat droplets faster.

During normal development in the rat ileum, ASBT undergoes a biphasic pattern of expression with a prenatal onset, postnatal repression, and reinduction at the time of weaning.

The bile acid responsiveness of the ASBT gene is not clear and may be dependent on both the experimental model used and the species being investigated.

Bile is both excretory and secretory – in addition to bile salts, it contains cholesterol, phospholipids, and bilirubin (from the breakdown of haemoglobin).
The liver synthesises cholesterol, which then circulates in the body to be used or excreted into bile for removal.
Increased cholesterol concentrations in bile may lead to gallstone formation.

Bile flows out of the liver through the right and left hepatic ducts (see Biology of the Liver and Gallbladder: Blood Supply of the Liver), which come together to form the common hepatic duct.
Between meals, bile salts are stored in the gallbladder, and only a small amount of bile flows into the intestine.
As a result, bile flows into the duodenum and mixes with food contents.
