Topic: Auscultation

 Auscultation
Auscultation of the lungs involves the thorax and the lower respiratory tract, it’s imperative that exercise physiologists are familiar with anatomy and anatomical landmarks so one knows where and what they are listening to.
The lungs are auscultated with the diaphragm on the chest piece of a stethoscope with the patient breathing slowly and deeply thorugh their mouth.
Auscultation is a assessment tool to determine the limiting factors to exercise.

 MVS Cardiac Auscultation
Auscultation is perhaps the most important, basic, and effective clinical technique you will ever learn for evaluating a patient's cardiovascular function.
You may wish to wet the patient's chest hair with a little warm water to decrease the sounds caused by friction of hair against the stethoscope.
b) The patient should be in the proper position for auscultation, i.e.

 CADI: Cardiac Auscultation Diagnosis Instruction
Although auscultation is a valuable diagnostic technique, it is a difficult skill to learn.
Often physicians will be listening specifically to the heart and lungs, although the technique has broad application.

Blaufuss Multimedia - Heart Sounds and Cardiac Arrhythmias
Heart Sounds and Murmurs CD-ROM: translated into Spanish and Japanese editions, used in medical schools worldwide, this program is the classic reference for cardiac auscultation.
Heart Sounds Proficiency Test: this interactive multimedia program has been used to measure auscultation proficiency of physicians and allied health professionals at all levels of training.
Actual patient videos and recordings of their heart sounds, combined with computer animations, test the ability to establish physical findings at the bedside.

 The R.A.L.E. Repository
These are breath sounds that doctors, nurses, respiratory and physical therapists hear with a stethoscope when they auscultate the chest of a patient.

 SAS Testing: Auscultation versus Doppler
Doppler "passes" can therefore be achieved in auscultation positive dogs by the fact that there is not a definite narrowing, not increased blood flow, only the turbulence detected by auscultation.
I would emphasise that the view on ausculatation vs Doppler is not my own personal one, but rather what has been hammered into me over the years by our most experienced cardiologist/s - and to me it does make sense.
Auscultation screens for physical changes whereas Doppler screens for changes related to function.

If you are using a stethoscope to assess patients with respiratory diseases, if you are teaching auscultation to students in the health care professions, or if you are simply curious about sounds that have been valuable in medical diagnosis over centuries, you may want to learn more about our Association.

The Doppler technique can also be used to auscultate pulses in the hands and feet when they are diseased and difficult to feel.
Auscultation is a method used to "listen" to the sounds of the body during a physical examination.
Health care providers also use auscultation to listen to the heart sounds of unborn infants.

 Auscultation
This tutorial on the physical examination with emphasis on auscultation is aimed at medical students and practitioners and has been developed by McGill medical students under the supervision of the McGill Medical Faculty.
The R.A.L.E. (Respiratory Acoustics Laboratory Environment) Repository presents digital recordings of respiratory sounds (eg wheezing, bronchial breathing, inspiratory squawk and crackles etc) in health and disease for use in medical education.
This is one in a series of tutorials made available on the Web by the Molson Medical Informatics Project, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University.

 CSU AUSCULTATION LIBRARY
Within each species page, the content is organized by organ system including cardiac, respiratory, and abdominal auscultation.
This site contains a collection of auscultation sounds from normal and diseased animals.
It is their collaboration and continued support that makes this Auscultation Library a continuing success.

 Echocardiography
There are practice guidelines that describe the indications for echocardiography.
The opening of the non prosthetic aortic valve is usually inaudible on auscultation.
There are exceptions: flow murmurs heard during pregnancy, typical innocent murmurs such as a venous hum or a mammary souffle.

Virtual Hospital: Lung Sounds: Chest Auscultation
They are loudest where the large airways are closest to the body surface, and they are more distant in obese individuals than thin ones.
The intensity of breath sounds depends on the location of auscultation and on the bodyshape.
It is easiest to hear breath sounds during inspiration and expiratory sounds are less well heard.
