Topic: Aplastic anaemia

 Anaemia
Prognosis for this form of anaemia is generally that it is corrected by therapy.
Causes of other types of aplastic anaemia may be chemotherapy, radiation therapy, toxins, drugs, pregnancy, congenital disorder, or systemic lupus erythematosus.
Blood transfusions and, increasingly, bone marrow transplants, are necessary forms of treatment for aplastic anaemia patients.

 Aplastic anaemia
The usual therapy used to suppress the immune system in aplastic anaemia is use of antilymphocyte or antithymocyte globulins (ALG or ATG) and cyclosporin.
True relapse, that is a return of the original condition of aplastic anaemia affects perhaps one in ten patients.
During this time patients will be at risk from anaemia, bleeding/bruising problems and infections and supportive therapy is essential.

Aplastic anemia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term 'aplastic' refers to the inability of the marrow to function properly.
In many cases, the etiology is impossible to determine, but aplastic anemia is sometimes associated with exposure to substances such as benzene or to the use of certain drugs, including chloramphenicol and phenylbutazone.
Treating aplastic anemia involves suppression of the immune system, an effect achieved by daily medicine intake, or, in more severe cases, a bone marrow transplant, a curing but risky procedure.
