Antiandrogens are used in prostate cancer as part of combined androgen blockade (CAB) therapy.
This pain may be eased by the use of a pain reliever (such as aspirin or acetaminophen).
This type of therapy, also called maximal androgen blockade (MAB), involves a combination of an antiandrogen and an LHRH analog or orchiectomy.

In this study we examined the effects of exposure to the antiandrogenic fungicide vindozolin (Vz) on the development of two sex-differentiated behaviors that are organized by the perinatal actions of androgens.
Antiandrogens could therefore affect the reproductive success of a wide range of animal species by altering male copulatory behavior.
Other antiandrogens such as procymidone, prochloraz, and linuron also affect the development of the BC muscle (Lambright et al.

PCAW - Prostate Cancer Awareness Week - Tolerability of Nonsteroidal Antiandrogens in the Treatment of Advanced ...
In one study of antiandrogen plus medical or surgical castration in patients with advanced prostate cancer, 20 of the patients were originally randomized to nilutamide, but the occurrence of visual side effects in 70% led to an early change to flutamide and the use of flutamide as the antiandrogen in all subsequent patients
One of the first antiandrogens to be used in clinical practice as a component of CAB was the steroidal antiandrogen cyproterone acetate.
Clinical hepatotoxicity has also been associated with all three nonsteroidal antiandrogens, but there are differences among the three drugs with respect to the nature and severity of the reported conditions.

Comparison of flutamide and spironolactone in the treatment of hirsutism: a randomized controlled trial
After cessation of antiandrogen therapy at 9 months, women in the flutamide-treated group showed a much slower return of hirsutism compared with those in the spironolactone group.
This resistance to antiandrogenic therapy was not correlated with any endocrine or other evaluated parameters.
Despite these limitations, it is clear that spironolactone does not offer sufficient antiandrogenic coverage to sustain significant improvement of androgen-sensitive skin disorders and that long-term administration of the drug is limited because of adverse side effects.

In addition, we believe this is the first study to objectively demonstrate oral antiandrogen treatment can improve hair density in women with androgenetic alopecia rather than merely halt further loss.
He observed that a number of previous studies of oral antiandrogens, including finasteride, failed to find any therapeutic benefit in women thought to have androgenetic alopecia.

Antiandrogen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Antiandrogens are often indicated to treat severe male sexual disorders, such as hypersexuality (excessive sexual desire) and sexual deviation, specifically paraphilias, as well as use as a antineoplastic agent and palliative, adjuvant or neoadjuvant hormonal therapy in prostate cancer.
They are also occasionally used as a male contraceptive agent, to purposefully prevent or counteract masculinisation in the case of transwomen undergoing gender reassignment therapy, and to prevent the symptoms associated with reduced testosterone, such as hot flushes, following castration.
The term antiandrogen withdrawal response (AAWR) describes the medical course taken when cancer cells adapt to feed on the antiandrogens rather than androgen, so that treatment must be halted in order to starve those cells thriving on the antiandrogens.

The antiandrogen withdrawal effect was first noted in patients who had received the nonsteroidal antiandrogen flutamide (Eulexin) as part of their combined hormonal therapy.
As a consequence it was initially known as the "flutamide withdrawal syndrome." When the PSA level rose to about 20 ng/ml and it was clear that combined hormonal therapy was failing, some physicians would stop the patients' flutamide on the ground that there was no point to continuing this form of therapy.
However, it can prolong the period of effective therapy with orchiectomy or LHRH agonists by many weeks or months before the patient's PSA level begins to rise again.
