Anna Freud - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
At that time, these ideas were revolutionary and Anna provided us with a comprehensive developmental theory and the concept of developmental lines, which combined her father's important drive model with more recent object relations theories of development, which emphasize the importance of parents in child development processes.
In 1947 Anna Freud and Kate Friedlaender established the Hampstead Child Therapy Courses.
In 1935 Anna became director of the Vienna Psychoanalytical Training Institute and in the following year she published her influential study of the "ways and means by which the ego wards off displeasure and anxiety", The Ego and the Mechanisms of Defence.

Sigmund Freud - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to some of his successors, including his daughter Anna Freud, the goal of therapy is to allow the patient to develop a stronger ego; according to others, notably Jacques Lacan, the goal of therapy is to lead the analysand to a full acknowledgment of his or her inability to satisfy the most basic desires.
Later, Freud distinguished between three concepts of the unconscious: the descriptive unconscious, the dynamic unconscious, and the system unconscious.
Sigmund Freud's youngest daughter Anna Freud was also a distinguished psychologist, particularly in the fields of child and developmental psychology.

 Freud
Anna Freud, the daughter and pupil of Sigmund Freud, founder of psychoanalysis and the founder of psychology, is the founder of child psychoanalysis.
Freud’s analysis of Anna was completed in 1922 (1918-1922) and he started to concentrate more on the role of the mother in the daughter’s life rather than the father always being the sole motivator of behavior.
Anna worked on her own paper for the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society, and due to the fact that she did not have any patients of her own to analyze, she analyzed herself, and in imitation of her father gave it without notes.

Freud also followed Plato in his account of the nature of mental health or psychological well-being, which he saw as the establishment of a harmonious relationship between the three elements which constitute the mind.
Sigmund Freud, physiologist, medical doctor, psychologist and father of psychoanalysis, is generally recognised as one of the most influential and authoritative thinkers of the twentieth century.
Freud's theory of the unconscious, then, is highly deterministic, a fact which, given the nature of nineteenth century science, should not be surprising.

The Individual: Therapy and Theory -- Sigmund Freud: Conflict & Culture (Library of Congress Exhibition)
Freud used the concepts of "transference" and "counter-transference" to refer to the strong emotions projected by the patient onto the doctor and the doctor onto the patient.
Freud's focus was on reading the obscure language of the unconscious, and he developed techniques of interpretation in order to do so.
When Freud returned to Vienna, he began using hypnosis, massage, and pressure on the head to get patients to dredge up thoughts related to their symptoms.

 Anna Freud
Anna Freud found that the best way to deal with this "transference problem" was the way that came most naturally: be a caring adult, not a new playmate, not a substitute parent.
As she rightly pointed out, the ego is the "seat of observation" from which we observe the work of the id and the superego and the unconscious generally, and deserves study in its own right.
However, she was more interested in the dynamics of the psyche than in its structure, and was particularly fascinated by the place of the ego in all this.

 Adoption History: Anna Freud (1895-1982)
In their book, Freud and her co-authors argued that children’s fundamental need for ongoing and reliable emotional ties should trump other considerations in adjudicating cases where child placement and custody decisions were in conflict.
According to Freud and Burlingham, what they saw proved that emotional contact was a powerful, natural drive and also that the “artificial families” institutionalized children formed could never satisfy that drive.
The psychoanalytic tradition represented by Sigmund Freud and Anna Freud decisively shaped modern adoption.
