 TCART - Gestational Carrier
Gestational carrier is the procedure of taking the oocyte and the sperm (gametes) from the biological parents, fertilizing them in-vitro and then implanting the fertilized embryo(s) into the uterus of a woman (carrier), so that she may be able to carry the pregnancy to term.
For these women, using a gestational carrier is the only option open to them in order to have their own biological child.
We advise all carriers that they should have psychological counseling and assessment, to rule out any concerns that they may have and to ensure that they are prepared emotionally for the outcome.

APHA - Journal and Newspaper - American Journal of Public Health - Editorials August 1997 - Annotation: The Accurate Measurement of Gestational Age--A Critical Step Toward Improving Fetal Death Reporting and Perinatal Health
Without an accurate measure of gestational age, precise populationwide assessments of variation in birthweight for gestational age and the proportion of small-for-gestational age infants are thwarted.
This controversial issue must be addressed with rigorous methods, given the importance of gestational age for assessing risk factors, monitoring health status in populations, and evaluating interventions aimed at decreasing perinatal mortality and preterm delivery.

Gestational age correlates with skin reflectance in newborn
In summary, the extrapolated skin reflectance offers a quantitative and objective assessment of gestational age which is independent of melanin and sex.
Accurate gestational age determination is limited in very low birthweight infants using neurological and physical assessments.
Gestational age correlates with skin reflectance in newborn infants of 24-42 weeks gestation

CHEST: Use of urine pregnancy test for rapid diagnosis of primary pulmonary choriocarcinoma in a man - selected reports
The reason that nongestational choriocarcinoma behaves so differently from gestational cancers is unknown.
Due to its rarity, primary choriocarcinoma of the lung in men is often incorrectly diagnosed as more common diseases, such as primary or metastatic lung cancer, and therefore potentially curative chemotherapy or surgery may be withheld from the patient.
In contrast to gestational choriocarcinoma, the natural course of primary pulmonary choriocarcinoma is rapidly fatal in the great majority of cases.

Robert Nichols, Esq., P.C. - Egg Donation and Surrogacy
Gestational carrier arrangements can be a great option for couples where the female partner is unable to carry a child to term or has been advised by her physician that it is not medically advisable for her to become pregnant.
We are committed to assisting carriers through every aspect of the gestational carrier process (the process by which a woman carries a child that she has no genetic connection to for another couple), including the initial interviews, the matching process, the in vitro fertilization (“IVF”) cycle, and the pregnancy itself.
Carriers should use this consultation appointment to ensure that they receive answers to all of their medical and psychological questions regarding the gestational carrier process.

 OPTS
In a surrogacy or gestational carrier arrangement, it is critical that both carrier/surrogate and intended parents alike realize that the relationship may not meet their expectations and be willing to take that risk.
Surrogacy and gestational carrier make up different kinds of families and I have had the opportunity to watch these families come to be over the last decade or so.
Most of the women who volunteer to be gestational carriers have told me they would never consider and/or feel comfortable donating their eggs but have no problems carrying a pregnancy.

IVF in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Women's Institute
Gestational carrier / IVF surrogacy is distinguished from surrogate motherhood by the fact that the carrier/ IVF surrogate has no genetic relationship to the child.
The gestational carrier program, also referred to as IVF Surrogacy, is a clinical extension of the in vitro fertilization-embryo replacement (IVF-ER) process and is used for women who have no functional uterus for various medical reasons (including genetic absence or abnormalities, prior hysterectomy, etc) or are unable to carry a pregnancy.
A gestational carrier program is in fact the only opportunity for these women to have their own genetic child.

Gestational Carrier, Egg Donor & Infertility Center in Somerset, Lawrenceville, and Freehold, New Jersey
Although the gestational carrier process can be a long one, it gives couples that are unable to conceive on their own the chance to have a child that is biologically theirs.
Our infertility practice specializing in gestational carrier, IVF, and egg donor programs, IVF New Jersey, is prepared to help our patients through the stress that infertility treatments can bring.
Generally, couples undergo IVF to produce their own embryo that will be placed in the uterus of the gestational carrier who will carry the baby until it is born.

Gestational Diabetes Resource Guide - American Diabetes Association
Gestational diabetes affects the mother in late pregnancy, after the baby's body has been formed, but while the baby is busy growing.
You will need help from your doctor, nurse educator, and other members of your health care team so that your treatment for gestational diabetes can be changed as needed.
While gestational diabetes is a cause for concern, the good news is that you and your health care team - your doctor, obstetrician, nurse educator, and dietitian - work together to lower your high blood glucose levels.

PROGNOSIS OF GESTATIONAL CHORIOCARCINOMA AT KHYBER TEACHING HOSPITAL PESHAWAR
Conclusion: Prognosis of gestational choriocarcinoma is favourable provided the appropriate therapy is administered early in the course of disease.
Evaluation of metastatic disease was done by thorough clinical examination and set of investigations including chest radiography and ultrasound scan of abdomen and pelvis.
Diagnosis of choriocarcinoma was mainly based on clinical course of the disease (history, abnormal vaginal bleeding, adnexal masses) and elevated levels of serum b-HCG.

Gestational trophoblastic disease (Disease) - Southwest Washington Medical Center
Gestational trophoblastic disease, or choriocarcinoma, is an aggressive, malignant, often metastatic (spreading to other organs) cancer in the uterus that begins following a pregnancy, a miscarriage, or an abortion.
Although careful monitoring after the removal of hydatidiform mole or termination of pregnancy may not prevent the development of choriocarcinoma, it is essential in early identification of the condition, which improves outcome.
Hydatiform mole is a condition which develops when a pregnancy has many complications.

BioMed Central Full text Does the risk of cerebral palsy increase or decrease with increasing gestational age?
The patterns of gestational age-specific stillbirth [ 9-11 ], neonatal death [ 12-14 ] and cerebral palsy observed under the fetuses-at risk formulation are congruent and the formulation is appropriate because a fetus at any gestation is at risk of birth, death and cerebral palsy at that gestation [ 13 ].
The two formulations of gestational age-specific cerebral palsy rates were graphed and the fetuses-at-risk approach was also used to examine temporal trends in gestational age-specific rates of cerebral palsy in Shiga Prefecture, Japan and in North-East England.
Our alternative formulation of the gestational age-specific pattern of cerebral palsy is important because it represents a causal model which provides insight into a biological process.

Management of the Woman with Threatened Birth of an Infant of Extremely Low Gestational Age
The best available assessment of fetal health status, gestational age and weight, and information concerning the short-term and long-term risks and benefits of outcomes for the mother, fetus and infant are needed to make recommendations for management.
Benefits, harms and costs: Use of these guidelines will enable health care providers to offer parents of infants of extremely low gestational age therapeutic choices before birth based on full information on likely outcomes, to avoid unnecessary cesarean section and to minimize suffering when treatment of infants is not in their best interests.
A neonatologist or delegate should attend births of infants of this gestational age to help with treatment decisions based on the condition of the infant.

Birth weight - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Macrosomia, also known as big baby syndrome, is sometimes used synonymously with LGA, or is otherwise defined as a fetus that weighs above 4000 grams (8 lb 13 oz) or 4500 grams (9 lb 15 oz) regardless of gestational age.
A baby born small or large for gestational age (either of the two extremities) is thought to have an increased risk of obesity in later life.
Babies that are large for gestational age throughout the pregnancy can sometimes be seen during a routine ultrasound.

 Smart Moms: Month by Month
One of the most frequent questions you will probably hear from friends and acquaintances when you tell them you are pregnant is "How far along are you?" or "When you are due?" Your health care provider will estimate the gestational age of your baby at one of your first prenatal appointments.
It is also important to know gestational age so that an overdue baby can be carefully monitored.
Gestational age is very important when complications occur in the pregnancy and early delivery may be necessary.

eMJA: Doyle et al, Why do preterm infants die in the 1990s?
The aim of this study of preterm infants 23-36 weeks' gestational age born in 1994-1996 in a hospital with neonatal intensive care facilities was to describe the variation with gestational age in the mortality rate and the causes of death, focusing on avoidable causes.
Gestational age in completed weeks was assigned according to the first antenatal ultrasound scan, or maternal dates if no ultrasound report was available.
In the seventh case, the gestational age was 23 weeks and before birth the infant was considered incapable of surviving, yet was given full intensive care postnatally.

The purpose of our analysis was to create a more nearly continuous reference measure of birth weight for gestational age using a recent nationwide dataset.
[ 28-30 ] However, these approaches are limited because they assume either no relationship or a linear relationship between birth weight and gestational age.
Thus, precise determination of birth weight relative to gestational age is needed to understand both the determinants of intrauterine growth and the sequelae of altered growth.

 Gestational Diabetes: Nutrition and Questions
Gestational diabetes providers, while paying lip service to breastfeeding, are notorious for de-emphasizing it, interfering with it through unnecessarily obtrusive procedures, and sabotaging it by being uneducated about breastfeeding and supply issues (placing women on the pill without informing them of its risk to supply, etc.).
Some gestational diabetics are able to have a bit more flexibility and with guidance from a dietician as to wise choices, are able to have a bit of a treat on rare occasions under certain conditions.
Diabetics whose chromium levels are fine, however, do not seem to benefit much from chromium supplements.

Family Scholars Blog » ‘GESTATIONAL CARRIER’
But I do question the general use, and even the terminology of “gestational carrier.” The term itself to me serves to dehumanize and deny the human dignity of the person who is going to be doing the physical (and inevitably some of the emotional work) of nurturing this baby.
Dear Hopeful: I did a little research and learned that the term “gestational carrier” refers to a woman who would carry an embryo that was developed using your egg and your husband’s sperm.
This is the woman whose voice the baby in utero will grow to know first, and the baby will experience this woman’s body and smell as its biological mother, although she is not genetically related.
